Watercolor and pen/pencil drawing
Forever inspired by the natural world, I am drawn toward expressing the captivating beauty of both flora and fauna — whether my medium is photography, pencil, paint, or simply silent appreciation. In particular, I am fascinated with evoking the innate essence of each animal that I paint or draw. The eyes of an animal inspire my inherent determination to convey that spark that lies within: the prowess of a tigress, the attunement of a rabbit, or the fierce intent of an eagle. As a child, I discovered a knack for translating images from photos onto paper. While it introduces some imperfections, I prefer to continue to create from my own drawings rather than trace from reference photos. Each drawing or painting presents an ever-novel challenge of capturing the subject in pencil. For subjects best expressed in color, I prefer to use watercolor paint. What fascinates me about watercolor is the balance that can be achieved between stark controlled detail and soft ethereal flow — the mystery that ensues from the free interplay of water and pigment.
