The Artists
Brad Powers
Wood
Most of my current work is focused primarily on turned objects using a lathe.
My father worked in the construction field and among other skills was an accomplished woodworker. My mother was always involved with some art or craft project, from oil painting to crocheting. I was mostly exploring traditional woodworking projects until I discovered woodturning about 10 years ago. Something just “clicked” and I was captivated by the combination of art and craft inherent in woodturning.
I am also a lifelong technology enthusiast who enjoys blending traditional hand crafting techniques with modern technologies such as laser engravers, 3D Printers and Computer Controlled CNC routers. I believe creativity can be expressed through technology in addition to more traditional artistic mediums, adding hand crafted elements to make each piece truly unique.
Brad graduated from Washington State University in 1991 with a degree in Communications. He has worked for the US government as a contract manager and program manager for web development for over 30 years. You will note this has absolutely nothing to do with art! I started doing craft fairs a few years ago and eventually became part of Gallery Row in Gig Harbor and the Verksted Gallery in Poulsbo. I very much enjoy sharing my work with others.
