Melody is a Bainbridge Island based artist who specializes in mixed media collage using washi tape as her main medium. She is a graduate of the University of Texas at Dallas. Her works have won awards and have been featured in newspapers and magazine publications. Melody approaches her subject matter with the Zen-influenced “art of letting go.” By using washi tape, her ephemeral art changes with the lighting, the angle, and over time gives into the truth that nothing is permanent. It is through this knowledge of impermanence that she explores the interconnectedness of all life. She tends to hide messages in her works to draw viewers closer, to question its meaning, relationship to the image, and to discover connection. You will oftentimes find Melody laying upside down under her subject matter, so she can see the world from a different view.
