The Artists
These collages are based on “idioms” – a group of words which, when used together, has a different meaning from the one which the individual words have.
The inspiration for these pieces came to me when I was looking at old photos of my grandfather. He grew up during the depression and had remembrances of being poor and used to tell me stories of those times. He would laugh at the good times (and the bad) and would use the idioms like “eating high on the hog” about the good.
The other, larger collages are based on poems, stories, and fairytales. Each piece has the story incorporated in some way into the piece. When reading these stories and poems they brought forth imagery that I wanted to put on canvas.
Many of my originals incorporate old etchings and royalty-free work, drawing, hand-made papers, acrylic and other mediums. Other items (serving trays, mugs, etc.) are heat sublimated/printed in my studio on Miller Bay.
