As a life-long creative, I have always noticed the small details, patterns and colors in my daily life. I love the way barnacles make a striking pattern of dark and light or how the clouds look painted against the various blues in the sky. These details along with a lifetime of sailing, hiking, traveling, and living in Southeast Asia and Europe and 35 years in the investment industry inspire my art. These adventures brought a love of charts, architecture, numbers, and symbols. I intuitively incorporate these influences into my art practice. From my home studio in Gig Harbor, WA, I work with multiple layers of acrylic paint and mixed media to add texture, color and pattern that expresses an emotional and profound appreciation of life. In my encaustic work, I enjoy exploring different textures and compositions by imprinting the wax with a variety of found items – a sushi bamboo roller, crochet table cloth, rug pads, fabric, leaves, pretty much anything! I love discovering the small details and big patterns that don’t look like they were created with a paint brush. Using a blowtorch to heat up the wax is an enjoyable part of the process that is fun and allows me to add many different layers to create the final painting. In addition to creating art, I get immense pleasure from sharing my knowledge through workshops in my Gig Harbor studio.
