Kelly and Laura Cochran | Lost Forest Ceramics
Ceramics
Lost Forest Ceramics is a working studio where we teach wheel and hand construction classes. We also encourage walk-ins as there is always someone available to help guide your ceramic journey. Laura works at the studio full-time and will help guide you through projects and glaze questions and Kelly is available most evenings and weekends for wheel instruction.
Kelly is inspired by the vast nature within the Pacific Northwest along with the technology around us. You will often see abrupt edges, line work, and feel a sand-like texture reminding you of the beach or a smooth surface resembling a smoothed stone. He has the knowledge and ability to work large pieces on the wheel from his large cylinder jugs, jars, lanterns, and crocks with lids to small vases, closed forms, and creative hand-built animals. Laura is more of a whimsical ceramist from sculptures, hand construction, and wheel throwing she has a fun point of view and loves to share knowledge. She is known as the Glaze Queen because of her knowledge and techniques of glaze and glaze combinations. Laura is inspired by the Pacific Northwest which shows in the color palettes she chooses but she particularly loves sunset colors. Laura is also known for her snails; they are fun little plant friends or just cute to look at in the garden or inside. You can’t help but smile. Her snails have been spread throughout Kitsap County on a scavenger hunt so if you find one you get to keep it or give it as a gift because everyone deserves a smile.
