The Artists
These mannequins are a new form of expression for me. I like taking something as plain and non-descriptive as a mannequin head and turning it into something beautiful, fun, glamorous and whimsical! I like having fun with my art while additionally working with so many types of textures and materials!
My inspiration is fashion from the deco period. My color palette is mostly black and white but I have been venturing out into various color combinations and will continue to do so. I cover the heads in different materials….everything from tissue to glue. Then, they are painted. My usual medium is acrylic or watercolor and I use that to add details. I hand make the flowers and bows. The hats adorning sculptures are made by hand out of heavy paper. I construct the stands and paint them. My art and attitude can be described in one word: Whimsical !
