The Artists
I use traditional drawing techniques layering colored pencil over watercolor and ink on Arches hot-press watercolor paper. Primarily I am a draftsman rather than a painter, as I am most comfortable with a pencil in my hand, languishing over all the tiny changes in tone and hue. One of the many reasons colored pencil is my chosen medium is the elegant way in which it straddles the line between drawing and painting. I almost always look to the outdoors for inspiration. I am interested in my wildlife subject’s essence and vitality and seek to capture their playful, sometimes mischievous side – catching them in the act of behaving unexpectedly.
